News

Pilgrim Lutheran Church's primary focus is on God's Good News about the forgiveness of sins by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. (The English word "gospel" essentially means "good news".) In addition to our traditional proclamation of God's Good News in our services and Bible Classes, we make use of various other print and electronic media to communicate that Good News and other news about the congregation that we share with our members and the public. You may use this page to see or go directly to the most-recent postings in the News category, or you may use this page to navigate to the respective pages for each of the subcategories as described first below.

A considerable amount of fill had to be brought to the site to make up for the lot’s slope down from Florey Street. For easy access, the finished floor of the new Parish Hall will be at the same level as the finished floor of the remodeled Office Area.  A later part of this project will be stairs going up to a door to enter the Parish Hall from the lower parking area. Eventually the old retaining wall between Pilgrim’s original property and the more-recently acquired lots will need to be replaced and the lower parking area paved.

Officers and Board and Committee members specified by Pilgrim’s Constitution and the terms of the loan participated in the closing of the loan for the new Parish Hall on January 8, 2016, in Kilgore. The loan for the new Parish Hall is through the Texas District Church Extension Fund. Members of Pilgrim and of other congregations, as well as the Pilgrim congregation and congregations like Pilgrim, invest with CEF, usually making better returns than other similar investment vehicles, and, in turn, CEF loans congregations such as Pilgrim money to improve their facilities, usually at interest rates better than banks can offer. A borrowing congregation’s level of supporting investment with CEF can even earn a rebate of some of the already-low interest.
