News

Pilgrim Lutheran Church's primary focus is on God's Good News about the forgiveness of sins by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. (The English word "gospel" essentially means "good news".) In addition to our traditional proclamation of God's Good News in our services and Bible Classes, we make use of various other print and electronic media to communicate that Good News and other news about the congregation that we share with our members and the public. You may use this page to see or go directly to the most-recent postings in the News category, or you may use this page to navigate to the respective pages for each of the subcategories as described first below.

July 16, 2017: Doors open on new Parish Hall!

After Pastor Galler opened the doors to Pilgrim’s new Parish Hall with Sunday School Classrooms in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, the congregation moved into the building to finish the Rite of Blessing. Photo: Raelyn Pracht.

At the end of the Divine Service on Sunday, July 16, 2018, the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost, Pilgrim opened the doors to its long-awaited new Parish Hall with Sunday School Classrooms and blessed and sanctified the building with the Word of God and prayer. The congregation processed from the Sanctuary to the doors of the building while singing “Come, Thou Almighty King” (Lutheran Service Book 905), and, after the doors were opened, processed into the building’s Great Room while speaking Psalm 100. Once there, Pastor Galler, in part, prayed that God would bless all who use the building, helping them to grow day by day in the knowledge of His will and in the grace to perform it, to the honor and praise of His Name and the good of all people. The Rite of Blessing concluded with the singing of “Now Thank We All Our God” (LSB 895). Following the service were brief remarks by Steven Sampson, Capital Improvements Committee Chair, who thanked his Committee members and all who had been a part of the multi-year process. Then, people explored the new building and spent the afternoon finishing getting ready for the building’s first official use, the five-day Vacation Bible School 2017, which began that night.

July 10, 2017: Parking lot striping completed

Restored parking spaces that should meet ADA requirements are plainly evident in this view down the south side of Pilgrim’s complex from the Sanctuary doors facing Broadway west along Florey. The new Parish Hall and expanded parking beyond are also visible. Photo: Jim Treadway.

The crew from Zebra Parking Lot Striping and Restoration finished its work at Pilgrim on Monday, July 10, 2017. The restored parking area along Broadway and Florey and expanded parking west of the new Parish Hall, which also now connects to Broadway, gives those coming to Pilgrim more paved areas to park, in addition to the grassy area north of the complex. Members who can park on the grass are asked to do so when weather permits, and everyone is asked to leave the spaces along Florey closest to the doors of the Sanctuary, Office Area, and Parish Hall open for those differently-abled.
