The New Testament offers essentially five accounts of Jesus’s post-resurrection appearances and the events around them. Critics say the five accounts are so contradictory that they cannot be brought into harmony. None of the accounts is exhaustive, but each is fragmentary and yet also true and sufficient. And, there are plausible explanations for what seem to be contradictions. In other words, we can solve the mystery of the accounts, what has been called “The Easter Enigma”. See the parallels handout below for a comparison of some of the accounts, and see what seeming contradictions you detect. Then, take a look at the study handout and follow along with the audio recordings of the study that was conducted at Pilgrim on Sunday mornings during the Easter season of 2012.
