Do you know who Adam and Eve were? How about Perez and Zerah? Could you win a Biblical game of “Trivial Pursuit” or are you doing well to know just that there is a Bible and that it has some different books? Of course, some Biblical details are more critical to its central teaching of law and Gospel than other details. Not everyone has grown up in a Christian home and/or attended Sunday School since they were young. Answering the journalist’s or investigator’s five-W and one-H questions about even Basic Bible Accounts may be easy for one person but completely beyond someone else. We want to help! Pilgrim’s Adult Bible Class considers Basic Bible Accounts in terms of those six questions: who, what, when, where, why, and how.
On April 12 at 9:30 a.m., Pilgrim’s Sunday-morning Adult Bible-Class began considering “just the facts, ma’m” about essential Bible accounts, starting with Creation and going forward in chronological order. Each session “strictly” covers one lesson; rabbit-holes will not be pursued. The course is intended to help improve everyone’s Biblical “literacy”, whether you were born and raised Lutheran, or whether you were born and raised atheist or agnostic. If you have never attended or lately have not regularly been attending Sunday Adult Bible Class, this course is a great opportunity for you to begin or get back into that good habit!
Several key resources are being used for the course: One Hundred Bible Stories (copyright 2015, Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, MO); Answer Key for 100 Bible Stories and 100 Bible Stories Activity Book, edited by Barbara Szofran (copyright 2015, Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, MO); and A Light Unto My Path: A Guide to One Hundred Bible Stories written by Rev. Paul R. Harris (copyright 2022, Paul Harris, available at Lulu Press).
Pilgrim’s Sunday-morning Adult Bible-Class meets live at 9:30 p.m., both in-person in the Great Room of the Parish Hall and on-line via Jitsi (see the link near the top of the page in the grey-widget area on the right). All are welcome! Those participating online afterward by streaming or downloading recorded files are welcome to submit questions using the contact information at right, and we will attempt to address those questions the session after the questions are received. Note that if Pastor Galler is on vacation or if circumstances warrant, a different teacher may lead and/or a different topic may be taught, but that material will still be included on this page with this page’s chronological content. As they are available, both PDFs of handouts and recordings of audio and video to stream or download are linked below in reverse order, with the most-recent session first.
